Social Networking – the value

Have you seen http://www.thesixtyone.com? Have you been to a live show lately in Second Life and heard people talking about BUMPING? Well here is what it is all about and this is the true value and metrix of a technology supporting a community for social networking.

Go to the Sixtyone and check out the home page. There are new artists, songs and contributors that are listed for your voting pleasure. Artists can post their music and listeners vote for it. This brings the points and “weight” of the song up, therefore allowing the artist to “bubble” up to the top. Everyone gets a chance to be seen since there is a place to review new music. But this is not all there is to the true value of the network.

If I know or “subscribe” to a listener, I automatically can see what they have been listening to on my home page. Therefore exposing me to music I may not have chosen to seek out. If I choose to add the artist to my collection, based on my preferences, I will be able to see what activities they do on the site.

It is really a circular motion of exposure, scoring and affinity.

Check it out :) )
