What drives me? in Second Life
I have been doing a lot of explaining lately in SL, So I thought that I would post my REAL reasons for being in Second Life.
1. Research and contribution in an emerging technology: I believe that Second Life is a real contributor to the virtual worlds that will be the next generation of the internet. Do you know who Gartner is? It is a third party company that is a leader in the technology industry that covers technology trends. Gartner predicts that 80% of existing internet users, will be in some form of a virtual world by the year 2011. I believe that the time I spend in Second Life, is a contribution to the future. I have been working in technology for over 19 years. I have spent my career focusing on collaboration and technologies that target human interact and the emotional relationships with technology. This is my Real Life love and my Second Life love.
2. Patron and contributor of the Arts: My heart is in the arts. I love music, performance, art, technology in art, emotional expression. In Second Life I get to participate in all of these aspects, from my own personal expressions, to my appreciations and support for others. I stand strong on helping lift up, promote, expose and deliver artists to this new emerging technology and in Real Life as well. I believe there is such talented people in Second Life. Together we can help make Second Life a form of technology that can benefit the artist. We have to work together to make it happen. Educate the communities and get creative. Thinking out of this box can go a far way.
3. Social networking: I blog, myspace, youtube, facebook, slprofiles, thesixtyone, twitter (a little I admit), de-licio-us, and I Second Life. I believe that who I am in Second Life is who I am in Real Life. I am an honest person with a lot of humility. I am flawed, imperfect, bitchy, emotional, crazy and real! Second Life is not a game. If we get to know each other, just as in the real world, I will open my home, my heart and my life to you. I expect that in the core fundemental basic dealings with me, that you are honest, and know that I never come from a place to use or abuse anyone intentionally. I believe that Second Life offers a place for me to meet people, just as in Real Life.
The people that I have met in Real Life, Filthy Fluno, Cylindrian Rutabaga, Pato Milo, Zero One, Haliey Baliey, Fairie McCarey, Rake , Doug Mendelbaum, Brenna, Damon, Keiko, Aki, some Lindens and Armand SaintLouis that have touched me and many others to come! They make me honored to be apart of this virtual world that has so profoundly effected my real life. There are others that have inspired me, like Jonathan Kazan, Fangorn Denagu, Fdisk Nitely and of course Clanman Burns, who while 15 hours ahead of me, keeps me grounded in Second Life. I can not meet some of these people at this point due to physical boundries, but the relationships are just as strong!
I dont make any money on this Second Life gig… I spend.. a lot… and I do this for the love of it…and to support the live music, the technology and the social aspects of Second Life. My island is for the enjoyment of all Second Lif’ers. I have the mall, but it pays per month what I spend on ONE live performance at the Blue Fusion.
I am SO much more than just a venue owner in Second Life. I am an innovator, a friend, a promoter and a woman that is honest and true. If you EVER have any question about my motivation, my inspiration, my drive and passion, please feel free to talk to me about it.
